DIY Days Heartpacks

A couple of weeks ago we posted the Heartpacks from the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, where we kicked off Robot Heart Stories. Now we’re bringing things full circle with the Heartpacks from DIY Days LA, where Laika’s journey concluded and we wrapped up. Here’s a few we’d like to share; for more check out the gallery!

Heartpacks Keep Coming In

The inaugural edition of Robot Heart Stories may have wrapped up, but there’s still quite a bit to share! We’re still getting some excellent Heartpacks added to our gallery, and what I especially love about these is how well they interact with their environment. It’s great to see creators really getting into it!

FNC Heartpacks

Just before Robot Heart Stories officially launched, we held a workshop at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montreal, where tons of people made some of the first Heartpacks for the project. They were posted to the Gallery recently, and they look great! Here’s a few of my favorites:

(I love how specific and abstract the creator got with this one!)

(This one’s quite relevant to the times.)

(I just love this one because if it weren’t for my recent trip to France, I wouldn’t know what “glaces” was…)

(Aside from looking really cool, this Heartpack is just really interesting. Love the duality!)

Contributor Heartpacks!

It’s the end of Week 1 of Robot Heart Stories, and now seems like a good time to check out what sort of Heartpacks people are making. From what I can tell, they’re all looking really good! Keep them coming!

Here are a bunch of Lite Heartpacks made by students at Cherry Hill School in River Edge, NJ. Submitted by larflemming.

This brightly colored ‘bot loves to paint. And seems to be quite good at it…

I heart bagpipes? Submitted by matt.

And finally, my personal favorite so far, though at first glance I thought it was a refrigerator. I guess we never said anything about printing the Heartpack template on the same scale… Anyway, this giant towering robot of awesomeness comes all the way from a kindergarten/year 1 class in Sydney. Nice work! Submitted by evelyn.

Robot Heart Stories is live!

Today was a big day—scratch that, today was THE big day—as we launched Robot Heart Stories as our big push to reboot education! Take this opportunity to check out the site—take a look around, track the Robot’s journey, sign up to contribute (and yes, this means you can make your own Heartpacks now!), or see what other ways you can help out! Wouldn’t it be great to play a part in helping a robot and 42 elementary students change the way the world thinks about education?

Heartpack Lite

Heartpack Lite by Sai P
All the fun of making a regular Heartpack, with only half the calories! Er, wait. Actually the Heartpack Lite is more of a low-maintenance, easier version of the Heartpack Mini Robot. Both get the job done to help the Robot get home; it’s all really a matter if you want to break out the scissors and glue or not. Check out some cute examples we’ve been working on below!

More Heartpacks!

Heartpack by Yo P
I told you there’d be a few more prototype Heartpacks to see this week, and I’m a man of my word. I want everyone to get a good sense of just what you can do with these adorable little packets of awesomeness, so when the time comes for all you out there to start making them, you’ll be bursting with creative ideas that will blow all of ours out of the water!

Heartpack in the Wild

Check it out, what do we have here? This blog’s first Heartpack update! It’s my heartpack, and it has a bit of a caffeine addiction…like me. But look how adorable! And so fun and easy to make! Stay tuned this week for more heartpacks from more people!

Heartpacks

Now for an exciting part of Robot Heart Stories that I’ve been looking forward to mentioning for a while—this is the part where YOU, the readers out there in Internet-land, get to add your own voices to the mix. You see, while the Robot searches for pieces of spaceship, you can actually help strengthen the Robot’s signal with the help of a little craft project. You’ll be able to print out, cut out and fold together a tiny Robot of your own, then decorate it as you like. Finally-and this is important-in the robot’s heart, write down something that you love. Then take a picture and share it with us!

We call them Heartpacks, and we’ll be highlighting the best and most creative ones right here on this blog!

Anyway, we’re still testing right now, but take a look at some more flatpack creations over at Readymech! They’ve been making stuff like this for a while, and all their flatpacks are free to download and print right now!
